hi hello,
made it within two weeks since the last post. none of you thought i could do it, yet here we are, a succulent sub fresh off the press. the paper still warm. the ink still wet. i have provided you, my loyal readers, with an array of top tier content so far. from voice memo’s to songs, from poetry to photo’s. but what i haven’t done yet is given you a peek behind the scenes when it comes to inspiration. i know you’re all dying to know what’s inspiring me, what gets my gears grinding. i’m feeling generous today, so i’ll give in. no need to keep begging. here’s 1 song, 1 book, 1 food, 1 film and 1 fact that have my stamp of approval.
1 song: i’ve got me - joanna sternberg
just so good. so simple and child-like and true. she plays everything herself which doubles it in goodness.
1 book: what we talk about when we talk about love - raymond carver
currently reading this bundle of fictional short stories about love. they’re often set in bleak midwest suburban life or shabby motels. raymond doesn’t beat around the bush, no sentences are longer than 10 words. i like it.
1 food: xi’an delicious foods, near leidseplein
best noodles you’ll eat in amsterdam, maybe the netherlands. the staff wouldn’t bat an eye if you fall off your chair and die, but the food is so good.
1 film: jazz on a summer’s day
one of the best concert films i’ve ever seen, filmed at the 1958 newport jazz festival with a mindblowing set by louis armstrong and a very awkward chuck berry show. if you ever come across it, watch.
1 fact: crows are as smart as 7 year old humans. they’re clever little creatures. if you’ve never seen them solve puzzles you should definitely check that out. it’s too much to get into right now, but watch this video and you will see why they are in my top 3 favorite animals. i will befriend and tame one someday.
obviously this is all very valuable information that we must keep to ourselves, in our little substack safe space. hope you can get something out of it.
later!
thanks sam the man vano, glad i could wait 2 weeks. love that song, and seen jazz on a sumemr's day sometime ago, indeed a very good concert film. the rest i'll work out when back in country
completely with you on the crows
